Melbourne Newborn Photographer – Sweet Baby Ruby

As a leading Melbourne Newborn Photographer, I am so lucky that I get to spend my days cuddling with precious newborns. On Wednesday last week, it was little Miss Ruby’s turn. Ruby’s mum Carley contacted me the week earlier to see if I was able to fit her in last minute. In most instances, as much as I would love to, I wouldn’t be able to fit a last minute booking in. But fortunately, we had a spot available! It’s super important to book your newborn photography session in early to avoid disappointment. Normally anywhere in the second or third trimester is fine! Now back to the session… 😉

Miss Ruby arrived this morning with mum and dad and proud big brothers Lachlan and Dillon. She had been fed and was ready to go and started her session super sleepy. My studio was filled with beautiful tones that mum had picked out of purples, whites, creams and greys. After lots of wrapping, we were ready to begin!

I was really excited today as I have received lots of new prop goodies recently from Graceland Design & Handmade Headbands by Sarah.

After our first wrapped purple set up we moved onto some prop shots. She kept teasing us with smiles, every time we had put the camera down to reposition her of course!!

We finally managed to grab a photo of one of her quick smiles…

Once we had finished our prop shots I checked in with Lachlan and Dillon who had been waiting oh so patiently to see if they were ready for some cuddles with their baby sister. They jumped at the chance (and who wouldn’t – have you seen her?!) They laid down and held her so carefully. As soon as I was ready to take their photo they turned on their most beautiful and natural smiles!! I didn’t even have to try and be funny… If only all sibling shots were this easy!

Then it was time for our family photos… the boys gave me their super star smiles again! So beautiful..

Each newborn session, if baby allows, we try to do some composite magic! Many clients do not realise but a lot of our gorgeous floral shots are done after the fact. This takes me a long time in post processing but allows us to achieve amazing set ups that we wouldn’t normally have time to do.. See below for an example today we did with Ruby.. First is a straight out of camera image and the second is when placed in a digital backdrop. Pretty cool right??

We then moved onto the beanbag for some more simple style photos.. I love the simple ones as much as the more detailed shots! Sometimes less is more.

Can you believe we got all the above shots done in just under an hour?! We were on a roll! Then it was time for some nude shots of Ruby and she had some other plans… These last two shots took us quite awhile as Ruby decided to do a wee just as we placed her down.. and then she fed, poo’d, fed, poo’d and repeat! They do say never to work with children or animals! But this is all very normal for a newborn session (especially once baby is nude) and with a little patience we got there and were able to achieve some adorable shots including the below.
